The two Bookish Zulu girls would love to wish everyone a Happy Youth Day. A time to reflect on a 40 year anniversary of one of South Africa’s most pivotal moments in its history.
We urge you to celebrate this day in the same spirit that was felt by those schoolchildren in 1976. An unstoppable force to be better. To demand better. That unquenchable thirst to be the best that you can be, demanding equal rights, equal education, equal status.
Today, we can now be more than those children ever dreamed they could be. We can study towards being anything that we absolutely want and that is a wonderful celebration. People lost their lives for this right and we cannot take that lightly.
Good luck to current schoolchildren in all your exams and for the rest of 2016. May you strive to always be your best and to always question the world around you and make it better, safer and happier.
